Tools & Materials: Needle Nose Pliers, Bar Soap

Removing broken light bulbs from their sockets can be difficult and dangerous without the proper tools. The easiest way to remove the broken bulb is by using a bar of soap. Make sure to unplug or turn off the electricity before attempting to remove the bulb. Next insert the bar of soap over the broken glass until it firmly grips the outside of the bulb. Then simply run the soap counterclockwise, remove the bulb and discard the soap. If the soap trick won’t grip for you, simply take a needlenose plier and grip the filament or metal base of the bulb and twist counterclockwise. This should do the job.
