3. Patching larger holes in drywall
Tools & Material: Straight Edge, Pencil, Drywall Saw, Drywall Mesh Tape, Sheet Rock,Drywall Screws, Plywood Strips, Drill, Joint Compound, Sand Paper, Primer, Touchup Paint, Paint Brush
Begin by outlining the damaged are in a perfect square using your straight edge or carpenter’s square. Cut away the drawn square using a drywall saw. Install the plywood strips behind the wall using your drywall screws and drill. Install two strips vertically behind the wall so as to act as a backing support for the sheet rock patch. Cut a square sheet rock patch measured to fit the existing hole. Leave a gap of 1/8” around the edges so as to ensure an easy fit. Apply the patch using drywall screws and drill the patch into your plywood backing strips. Tape the edges of the patch with drywall mesh tape and apply a thin coat of joint compound over the entire patched area. Once dry sand smooth and apply a quick coat of primer. Once your primer has dried, complete the job by applying a thick coat of touchup paint. Remember to feather out the paint so as to blend with the rest of the wall.
